
George Cornet
won Olympic Gold Medals as a member of the successful Great Britain team at the 1908 and 1912 Games.
He was the only Scot in these teams.
He remains the only Scot to win 2 Gold Medals in the Swimming disciplines.
He was a full-back and capped 17 times for Scotland between 1897 and 1912.
During that time Inverness Amateurs won the Scottish Championship once and reached 4 other finals.
An all-round sportsman over 6ft tall, he played football and cricket for Inverness teams as well as competing in heavy and track athletics events
He was born in Inverness in 1877 and died in Liverpool in 1952.
He was Secretary of the Highland Railway then, after amalgamation, Divisional Cashier of the L.M.S.R..
He was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame 12 March 2007.
