WATERPOLO CLUB |
|
Caledonia is a composite
team formed by
Dunfermline WPC and Menzieshill Whitehall AS&WPC to compete
in the British Water
Polo Leagues
which are played in various centralised venues in
England. Each team plays
each other twice with matches taking place over six weekends from
September to December each year. Neither Club has the player nor
financial resources to compete in this competition in their own right
given the commitment required for the 6 weekends. Around 20 players are
required and each will contribute in the region of £70 per weekend for
Fuel & Accommodation giving a total cost of competing each year in
the region of £6,000. Caledonia were accepted for entry into Division 3
in 2005 and were promoted as Champions to Division 2 in 2006. Caledonia
decided not to contest the play-off to stay in Div 2 in 2007 but to
drop to Div 3 to concentrate on developing young team. After a close
fought season, Caledonia narrowly missed promotion in 2010 and remain
in Division 3. |

Due to the clash with rounds of the LEN competitions, the following changes have been made to this season's BWPL programme:
5/6 November, Cardiff International Pool - Women's Super 5s and Championship 1 transferred to Cardiff, 11/12 February, 2012.
19/20 November, Manchester Aquatics Centre - Women's Super 5s and Championship 1 transferred to Grantham, 14/15 January, 2012.
Apologies if this causes inconvenience to clubs but the dates given to us by LEN in March of this year were different to those actually used for the competition.
Please note that:
Women's Championship 3 remains at Manchester Aquatics Centre on 19 November - on the second pitch.
Men's Championship 2 on 5/6 November will be at Leeds University and not Leeds International Pool
The BWPL website has been temporarily out of commission recently but details listed above will be added as soon as possible.
Sadly, for those unaware of the information, I have to report the sudden death at the weekend of Roger Hargreaves, former international referee and a great servant to the BWPL, NWPL and British water polo in general over many years. An obituary will appear on the website shortly.

BWPL - AGM delegates
Further to queries from a number of secretaries, each member club of the BWPL is entitled to THREE delegates at the AGM on 27 March. This is irrespective of the number of teams a club may enter in the league. Rule 7.6 applies: "Those entitled to vote at any General Meeting shall be the President and the officers as listed in Rule 7.1.3 and three delegates for every playing member club who must be members of the club they represent. Additional entered teams shall not entitle members to additional delegates. Associate members are not entitled to vote.

Jan 2011: Caledonia Women Win Promotion - The Caledonia
Women's polo squad finally achieved their goal of promotion to the second
division by finishing first in the 3rd division. The finished the British
Water Polo League with a record of 12 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, giving them
25 points to second place Carlisle's 23. They also topped the table in goal
differential with +83.
Throughout the season, Caledonia's traditionally stiff defense was present
as they only allowed 54 goals throughout the whole season and kept high
scoring Carlisle limited to 4 in each of their matches. However, the
difference this year was clearly in offense compared to past season's where
goal differential was always in the negative. Caledonia's Nicola Tate took
the Division 3 high scorer title while Julia MacKay was near behind in 3rd
position.
The players who played this season's Division 3 campaign for Caledonia were:
Gael Logan (Captain), Caroline Conner, Susan Johnstone, Laura Mathewson,
Julia MacKay, Chantal Guillot (Goalkeeper), Nicola Tate, Vicky Witko,
Michelle Risinger, Lynn Ruddock, Alison Thomson, Louise Fox, Jenny Bush,
Rhianna Stewart, and Nikki Sutcliffe.
Congratulations to the team and their coaches and managers.

where necessary, that you have booked your flights. There is

Once
confirmed, we will need to hire cars so please can you confirm as soon as
possible.
I
have not booked accommodation for this weekend yet, but I will book it

Weekend Guys,
If
possible, please can everyone try to make it along training on Saturday at
Kirkcaldy (1730-1900) as everyone will be involved at some point in the
season and it will be a good opportunity to run through some
tactics/man ups.
30 July 2010 : The British Water Polo League website is online now.
21 Mar 10 : New Season Hi everyone, Despite
Dunfermline beating the mighty M/Hill yesterday I hope we are all still on
speaking terms and starting to get ready for the season.
The fixtures for the
National league are out now and so the planning really needs to start.
Please check the dates and let Stewart and myself know if there are any dates
that you definitely can't make at the moment. Please make every effort to commit
yourself to as many weekends as possible as we all know the benefit of having a
full squad.
As you'll see we start the season against some heavy teams on the Saturday and
then the Marlins team that beat us to promotion two years ago. We can not afford
to have the first weekend to get ourselves fit and organised and we certainly
know that Exeter will be one of the toughest games of the year. (please recall a
12-3 hammering from Hucknall 1st game last year)
Training is available on Saturday evenings in Kirkcaldy and you are welcome to
attend with non-members paying £5 for the session. The next fixed session will
be on the 10th of April. Our 92 team will be playing in the ASA cup the
following weekend so the plan is to do some separate team work and then come
together to work man up and game situations. Please let me know your
availability. I understand there may be a GB weekend then. If everyone can get
there for around 5pm so we can have a quick chat before the session starts that
would be good.
PS As a small team challenge can everyone get a 50m free time done before the
session. You can use a race time as long as it has been done in 2010 or just a
training time. Don't care about PBs because they were probably done when you
were 15. Although I believe this was the average age of the Dunfermline team
last night.
I'll start the ball rolling with a 28.57 so nobody else needs to feel
embarrassed about posting their time.
David Baxter
