Comment
This was
an excellent victory against a strong and experienced Otter team. After
a slow start and being 5 – 2 down with only 2 minutes left in the second
period the players are to be commended for winning 11-7 from then on
thanks to a very high workrate and
determined approach. Indeed the game should have been slightly more
comfortable with us panicking in possession giving the ball away twice
in the last minute which lead to one goal
against and almost the equaliser.
In the second half of the game a mobile defensive system and counter
attack gradually began to wear Otter down. Wrong decisions in timing of
drives and poor shooting under pressure meant that not all chances were
capitalised on. Man up and Man down at approx 1 in 2
success can be improved.

Comment:
A win and
a draw would have been viewed positively before the weekend started but
having beaten Otter and playing an under strength and only 9 man
Tyldesley this was a lost opportunity to
finish the first weekend undefeated.
There were some positives as work rate throughout was high and we scored
some good counter attack goals but in a very closely contested game
( there were never more than two goals
difference between the teams and each period ended level) a lack of
composure and confidence in front of the opposition goal meant that
several good scoring and indeed match winning opportunities were
missed. At times this resulted in the opposition scoring as there main
player Michael Cowburn often did not return
to defence. Even when we kept one player back to mark him we did not
attack with enough conviction 5 against 5 and surrendered possession
often from the centre forward position. To be fair to
Cowburn he scored some good goals but often
it was because we lost possession too easily under pressure at times in
our own goal area having worked hard to win the ball. This is certainly
an area we need to work on in training in the
next two weeks.
