Dunfermline WPC win Kevin O'Neil Memorial Trophy at Durham

On Sunday a mixed Dunfermline team travelled down to Durham to compete in the 89 Kevin O'Neil Memorial Trophy, competing against teams from Durham, Sedgefield and a Kendal/Catterick/Sunderland select team. The tournament rules stated that 2 girls must be in the pool at any one time, with each game consisting of 2 halves of 7mins, check time.
The team consisted of :
1. Sam O'Connor (GK), 2. Robert Tate, 3. Toni Bonnar, 6. Lewis Don, 7. Alana Duncan, 8. Ross Woolley, 9. Andrew Woodall, 11. Jamie Hinley, 12. Ali Campbell (Capt.), and playing is his first away trip, 13. Craig McKenzie (GK)

The first game against the select team, didn't prove to be the hardest of games with the team winning 23-1. A full press proved to be very successful in this game and allowed us to steal the ball and counter. The goals came from: Robert Tate (1), Toni Bonnar (3), Lewis Don, (3), Ross Woolley (4), Andrew Woodall (6) and Ali Campbell (6).

Without a break, the next game was against a physical Sedgefield side who had a few big boys on their team! The game started brightly for us, after taking a 4-0 lead, however we seemed to take out foot of the gas a bit and let Sedgefield score 2 goals to make it 4-2 at half time. We re-grouped well at the brake and came out to win the 2nd half 4-2, leaving the full time score, standing at 8-4. I felt this was the teams hardest game of the weekend and everyone played well in this game, but in particular Andrew Woodall, who scored 5 out of our 8 goals, including 2 penalty's, and also both goalies, Sam O'Connor and Craig McKenzie who made some good saves throughout the match. Other scorers in this match were: Ross Woolley (1), and Ali Campbell (2).

We managed to have a 2 game rest before our 3rd and final match against the holders, Durham. Going into this match, most of our teams eyes were stinging from the excess amount of chlorine in the pool, however they knew that a win would hand us the trophy! Despite losing Lewis Don for this game, due to a groin injury, the team came good again, winning 13-5. Robert Tate and Alana Duncan took care of things at the back, assisted by Jamie Hinley, while Toni Bonnar had an eye for goal up front, bagging 4 in this game. A special well done goes to Ross Woolley, who still managed to score 2 goals, despite playing with his eyes shut for most of the game, as they were that bad with chlorine! Other scorers were: Andrew Woodall (3), Ali Campbell (4)

Overall, i think it was a good tournament for the team, yes the standard wasn't the greatest BUT we still had to perform well and that's what we did, winning 3 games out of 3 and scoring 44 goals in the process! Well done to all 10 players, i personally don't think anybody had a bad game!

Also a big thanks goes to the four drivers who went down providing transport, Mike Tate, Iona Duncan, John Bonnar and Iain Woolley. Without them we wouldn't have got there in the first place!
And last but not least, thanks to our number one fan, Chris "eagle eyes" Woodall (who spotted a team only had 1 girl in the water instead of 2!) Well done Chris.

List of goal scorers:
: Andrew Woodall - 14; Ali Campbell - 12; Ross Woolley -7; Toni Bonnar - 7; Lewis Don - 3; Robert Tate - 1
