Dunfermline 18-14 Warrender
Dunfermline retained the Scottish National Water
polo League defeating Warrender in the play-off final by 18-14 in a very
exciting game.
With a few players not available Dunfermline called-up 13yr old Darren &
Christopher Campbell & 14yr old Zach Thomson from their National Academy
team and all three players contributed to the victory with goals,
excellent defensive play and good saves at crucial times in the match
from Simon Metcalfe.
Dunfermline started well in the first quarter winning it 3-2 through two
goals from Calum Fraser and one from captain David Stewart.
Warrender fought back in the second quarter winning it 5-3 despite one
goal from Stewart Carlile and two goals from Christopher Campbell as the
half was reached with Dunfermline behind at 7-6.
The third quarter proved to be the crucial quarter which Dunfermline won
8-4 to go into the final quarter leading 14-11. In the decisive third
quarter Dunfermline scored five goals without reply in the first four
minutes which enabled Dunfermline to control the match. Three goals were
scored by the hard working Calum Fraser with one each from Neil
Comerford, David Pettigrew, David Stewart, Christopher Campbell & Darren
Campbell.
In the fourth quarter Dunfermline started well again with three goals
from Neil Comerford and one from Stewart Carlile to win the quarter 4-3
and a hard fought match 18-14.
Captain David Stewart was delighted with the victory and also the
performance of the three youngsters with the Club's youth development
work starting to now feed into the Senior team.
