Aquamark Presentation
On Thursday 27 Jun, Dunfermline WPC was presented with our Scottish Swimming Aquamark Accreditation by Andy Maguire (RSDM). The official certificate is on display in the Carnegie notice board.
Match Reports – Senior Ladies Scottish Cup Finals
Game 3 – Senior Ladies v Warrender – 2:30pm
For the 3rd and final female game of the day we fielded a depleted line-up with 11 players on poolside and regular starters, Nicola and Alison Tate missing. This meant that seven of our players were U/19 with four of them; Zara, Kayleigh, Amelia and Robyn lining up for their 2nd game of the day and U/17 players, Ava, Millie and Lucy lining up for their 3rd game of the day. Fortunately we had great experience to add to the group through club and national team captain Caitlin McRobbie, GB Internationalist Niamh Moloney and first seven starters, Molly Meldrum and Aimee David.
After an excellent semi-final win over BWPL team Kirkintilloch, Warrender were ready and motivated to provide a big challenge and to try and win the cup for their first time.
Per 1: The early game exchanges were closely contested with defences on top and unusually the game was still goalless with just over a minute remaining in the period. 2 late goals however through Caitlin and Lucy (man-up) saw us establish a 2-0 lead. A lead in fact that we never relinquished.
Per 2: A strong defensive press combined with a patient and accurate offence allowed us to move into a 6-0 lead by mid period with goals from Molly, Niamh, Lucy and Caitlin. Warrender fought back with 2 goals from centre forward Grace Dowley but a further goal from Caitlin ended the period at 5-2 and a 7-2 half time lead:
Per 3: An early penalty goal by Lucy extended our lead to 8-2 and then 4 exclusions were shared as both teams tried to apply attacking pressure. Only one goal was scored as Warrender reduced the deficit to 8-3. At this point, we really raised our game scoring a further 3 goals without reply for a 4-1 period scoreline and an 11-3 lead.
Per 4: With Warrender having lost their main centre back, Scottish internationalist Cameryn Davidson at the end of period 3 through exclusion, we managed to exploit this fully with players showing great effort and determination to constantly drive and rotate in and out of the centre forward position to win the period 6-1 for a final scoreline of 17-4:
Game reflections:
With a depleted team and a game played in difficult pool conditions this was an excellent performance and victory. Our defence and goal keeping was strong limiting Warrender’s goal efforts, man up opportunities and shot effectiveness allowing us to attack with patience and purpose. Whilst the experience of Caitlin and Niamh and shooting power of Lucy was crucial in terms of goal scoring they were ably supported by their team-mates (many of whom had already given their all for the club in earlier finals) in terms of effort and for the most part, sensible attacking and defensive decision making. Let’s hope we can maintain this positive momentum going forward through good training attendance and application.

Match Reports – U19 Girls Scottish Cup Finals
Game 2: U/19 Girls v Kirkintilloch & Kilsyth- 11:30am
For Eve, Ava, Ruby R, Millie, Libby W, Lucy, Libby D, Kayla, and Ruby O this was their second game of the morning. They were joined by their team-mates, Kayleigh, Amelia, Robyn and Zara for a full 13 player complement. To let Zara play outfield, Eve played in goal.
Against a very strong and evenly matched opposition, this was likely to be a closely fought game and so it turned out.
Per 1: KK started very strongly capitalising on our offensive errors and conceding a penalty and an exclusion to race into a 4-1 mid period lead. We fought back to 3-4, through goals from Robyn and Lucy (pen) to add to Kayleigh’s early goal but 2 further exclusions, one of which was scored saw KK leading 5-3 at the period end:
Per 2: The second period was a very high scoring affair where goals were traded evenly to 6-8 and then we gained parity at 8-8 before edging ahead at 9-8 and 12-11 by the end of the period. A feature of this period were the high number of exclusions and penalties gained and conceded by both teams. We gained 4 exclusions scoring 2 but also conceded a goal from a KK counter attack. KK gained 3 exclusions scoring 2 with both teams gaining and scoring a penalty. With a 9-6 period scoreline, we led 12-11 at half-time. Goals in this period were scored by: Ava, Lucy (pen), Zara 3 through excellent driving from defence and Kayleigh 5 through excellent centre forward play.
Per 3: Whilst KK adapted their defensive tactics to nullify the threat of Kayleigh at CF, we were able to pose threat elsewhere with goals from Amelia on the right wing, Libby W on the left wing and Lucy and a double from Zara from the central areas. We defended particularly well limiting KK to just 2 goals. Unfortunately at this point we lost Robyn after her 3rd major foul. Period score 5:2, game score 17-13.
Per 4: The last period was another high scoring affair with 3 exclusions and 1 penalty conceded by KK and 2 exclusions (including Zara’s 3rd major) conceded by us. Despite missing all 3 man-ups we defended very well to cover the loss of our first seven starters. 11 goals were shared between the teams (6-5) allowing us to extend our lead by one to finish the game as 23-18 winners. Scorers in this period were: Ava 3, Kayleigh, Millie and Lucy.
Game reflections:
Despite a slow start, this was an excellently controlled and hard fought victory against a very good team. Team workrate was very high throughout and our tactical applications were generally good, especially in the man-down phase where we saved 7 KK attempts. Despite losing 2 of our first seven by the start of the 4th period through exclusion, we had strength and endeavour on the bench to manage the game well and score when necessary to maintain our 3rd period advantage and see out the game. Areas for improvement are defending fast driving players without exclusion and accuracy within the man-up phase.

Match Report – U17 Girls Scottish Cup Finals
Many congratulations to the combined girls/ladies teams of Dunfermline WPC & Menzieshill who enjoyed a clean sweep of victories in their respective Scottish Cup finals on Saturday in Dundee on Sat 8 Jun.
Game 1: U/17 Girls v Kirkintilloch & Kilsyth- 8:30am
First up with an early 8:30am start were our U/17’s. This was a game where we were always ahead, establishing an unassailable half-time lead enabling all 12 of our listed players to enjoy good water time.
Per 1: Employing a strong defensive press to force error and create counter attack opportunities, we played excellently scoring 6 without reply through goals by Millie, Libby D, Ava 2, Lucy (pen) and Eleanor. Although we conceded 2 exclusions our man down defence and goalkeeping was strong saving both opposition efforts. Score: 6-0
Per 2: In this period we did really well to continue to put pressure on the more experienced KK players forcing shooting error and giving us further counter opportunities resulting in 4 goals through Millie 2, Libby D and Libby W to just 1 in reply for a half-time scoreline of 10-1.
Per 3: Credit to KK who came back strongly into the game capitalising on an array of our missed shooting chances to counter-attack strongly scoring 4 to just 1 penalty goal by Lucy. This included 2 man-up situations. It could have been 5 but for an excellent penalty save by Eve. At the three quarter stage we led 11-5.
Per 4: As we rotated our team, KK continued to put us under pressure and at one stage had reduced our lead to 13-8. However 2 goals in the last minute through Millie and Libby W in addition to earlier goals by Libby D and Lucy gave us a 4-3 period scoreline and a 15-8 final result.
Game Reflections: Although losing the 2nd half of the game 7-5, overall this was an excellent team performance where we started strongly, used all of our players and created many excellent scoring chances throughout the game. Indeed our main area for improvement in future trainings is to ensure that we are more accurate and make better decisions when presented with such opportunities.
