Match Report - Scottish National League U17F – Sun 14th Dec
NSA Stirling:
Dunfermline WPC’s U17 girls played their 2nd game of 2025/26 season with a 2nd loss to rivals Warrender. Due to call offs we were only able to field 8 players to Warrender’s 12. We were missing leading scorer Ava Thornton, Rosie Hookham and Molly had to miss part of the game due to injury, whilst Warrender were missing Charlotte Smith. Ava and Charlotte were attending GB trials. Massive congratulations to them both on their selections.
We were always trailing in the game and made a very slow start allowing Warrender to establish an unassailable 9-1 lead. We did fight very hard from that point and won the remainder of the game 12-11 but the damage was done and Warrender ran out deserved winners 20-13. Well done to them.
Per 1: Warrender started very strongly scoring in their 1st attack from centre forward Rebello. We did well to gain an exclusion at the other end but unfortunately this was missed. Warrender attacked strongly and Emily Lake (EL) scored two, one a penalty, to establish a 3 goal lead. Isla scored from close in to get us on the scoreboard but Warrender kept driving to score 3 in a row as we failed to call switches to pick up the central driver. With 2 seconds on the period clock, Warrender gained and scored their 2nd penalty to lead 7-1 at the period end.
Per 2: Warrender started strongly again with EL scoring another 2 from close in after strong drives to establish an 8 goal lead. At this point the damage was done in relation to the game outcome but it is to the team’s credit that they kept fighting hard to win the next part of the game 12-11. At 1-9, 8 goals were shared in the rest of period 2 with our goals coming from Hali at CF and 3 from Ruby O, one a penalty. We gained an exclusion too in the last few seconds but failed to convert. We trailed 5-13 at halftime.
Per 3: This turned out to be our best period of the game. It started badly as we were still 6v5 but on missing the shot EL countered the other way to score and increase Warrender’s lead. Ruby pulled one back but EL scored again on the drive. We then started to pick up. Poppy scored her 1st League goal of this season with a nice perimeter shot. We then gained an exclusion and a penalty but unfortunately both were missed. Molly then scored and we gained a further exclusion and a penalty but frustratingly those were missed as well. A 2nd goal from Molly in the last seconds of the period gave us a 4-2 period win to reduce arrears to 6 and a 9-15 scoreline at the three-quarter stage. Had we taken all our chances it could have been much closer.
Per 4: The last period continued to be an end to end contest. We started on the offensive but missed our 6th 6v5 of the game straying into 2 metres. We then conceded our 3rd and 4th penalties of the game to go a further 2 goals behind. We pulled one back with a nicely delayed shot from Ellie but Warrender stepped up again to score two more. Hali scored an excellent goal after good inter passing and Ruby then scored her 2nd penalty. Warrender scored again but we finished the scoring with Hali’s 3rd of the game for our first 6v5 conversion of the game. The game ended 20-13 to Warrender. A deserved win but we did well to work so hard with just 8 and at times 7 players in our team.
Game Reflections: This was no doubt a disappointing loss with a 2 goal extended margin from the last time out v Warrender. Our defence really struggled at the start of the game to mark individual players on the drive, drop effectively on their CF and call the necessary switches to cover their goal scoring threat. In addition, we posed minimal threat going forward against a heavy Press at this time. At 1-9 the game result was not in question, but positively we did really well to up our work rate in both attack and defence to trade goals with our opponents for the rest of the game. We worked hard to gain 7 exclusions and 4 penalties but only scored 3 goals.

Alan's birthday gift from the girls.
Areas to work on:
- 6v5 – setting up quickly, passing accurately to the free player and making good decisions on when to shoot on target!
- 1v1 defence – Position the body to direct the opposition driver away from the ball and the goal and if caught behind defend without conceding a penalty.
- Collective defence – Work together and communicate switches to cover opposition driving threats and crash back to protect our CB.
- Shooting on target under pressure including penalties.

SNL Boys U17 - Stirling v DWPC Match Report
U17M 14 Dec - Stirling 4-32 Dunfermline
The boys maintained their impressive and unbeaten start to the league campaign, emphasising that Dunfermline are the team to beat this season!
Stirling lined up with a young and experienced team but with lots of enthusiasm. Dunfermline came out and dominated the first period by taking a 12-2 lead and working very hard defensively to stifle Stirling attacking opportunities.
The game continued with Dunfermline firmly on top and the less experienced boys getting lots of valuable game time and taking their opportunities. Most pleasing was to see the goals spread across eleven players and all the squad contributing. Congratulations to Dev Birdi scoring a hat-trick on his 15th birthday and also Natan Jankowski stepping up a level and scoring his first goal at U17 level.

Team (scorers):
Aaron Bayne (GK P1), Logan Currie (6), Dominik Lazar (4), John Wilson (1), Toby Hoblyn (5), Maks Jankowski, Caleb Wilson (3), Euan Ferrier (3), Dev Birdi (3), James Lees (2), Zety Nagy (4), Natan Jankowski (1), Billy Stothard (GK P2-P4).
East District Development Tournament Report
Great to see so many of our players at today's East District tournament, 13 Dec. We had 11 very excited kids participating in games not only for DWPC but also with the Nomad team.
The main stand out for me was the progress all players have made since the last tournament, improved skills, confidence, and sportsmanship all round – well done all!
A great example of what the ED tournaments are all about, game experience, challenge and lots of fun.
